Scientific name: Capsicum Chiinense
The limo pepper is considered one of the most variable domesticated species in America . The area of domestication was in the north side of South America . Archeological discoveries from the Chavin culture in the coast of Peru , 1200 ac , indicate that it is very ancient. The spread of this product was parallel to the spread of the ceramic techniques inside the country. There are remains of the species in Huaca Prieta and Punta Grande , Peru . Pickersgill dates this spread between 122 ac and 150 dc.
The C. chinense species was apparently domesticated first in Peru . The most renowned cultivation is the “Chinchi-uchu”, of very hot red fruit and of yellow fruit known as “Ají limo».
